The Toshiba C855D-S5950 is a good entry level laptop that will meet your general computing needs. You have the Toshiba quality, reasonable processor, generous memory and storage, decent screen and sound quality at a low price.

AMD dual-core E-300 processor at 1.3GHzspeed with 4GB DDR3 RAM memory and 500GB Serial ATA hard drive at 5,400rpm rotating speed is what you get as processor and memory. Entry-level AMD E-300 is obviously not the fastest processor in the market but highly adequate at its price range- faster than Atom, and with 4GB memory it will allow for smooth functioning and quite a bit of multitasking. Although standard these days, 500GB is quite a lot of storage to save lots of multimedia files.

15.6" widescreen HD TruBrite LED Backlit display at 1366x768 pixel resolution and 16:9 cinematic aspect ratio supports 720p content and AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics engine is again more than reasonable. Toshiba Audio Enhancement and built-in stereo speakers give out clear and loud sound. So we think you'll be satisfied with both the display and the audio quality. Windows 8 operating system is pre-installed on the Toshiba but it is not a touchscreen.

It comes with a DVD SuperMulti drive for when you need it. In terms of other connectivity options, you have 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 802.11 b/g/n wireless, HD Webcam and Microphone, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, Memory Card Reader and RGB port. None of the 3 USB ports are 3.0 to let you do fast data transfers, they are standard USB 2.0 ports. And there is no HDMI port to connect to larger screens like your HDTV. US keyboard is comfortable and functional with 10-key numeric pad and Touch pad pointing device with multi touch control.

Satin Black Trax color Toshiba Satellite weighs 5.5 pounds and is 1.31 inches thick, so it is portable enough with its 15.6 inch screen as well. It is Energy Star qualified like most Toshiba notebooks but its battery life is a little on the low side at a bit under 4 hours.

Pros: 15.6 inch HD TruBrite LED Backlit display - Good sound - 4GB RAM - 500GB Storage - Low price.

Cons: No HDMI or USB 3.0 port - Battery life at 3.77 hours.

Conclusion: The Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5950 is a decent budget laptop designed for general daily computer use. Toshiba brand, functional, reliable, durable, nice looking, fast and powerful enough for anything other than latest games and other memory intensive advanced graphics editing programs. It is well worth having a look if you don't intend to spend hundreds more for a laptop.
